The world apparently has stopped watching Elizabeth Smart's every move — at least for three months. That's how long it took to learn the famous activist from Utah had a baby girl.

Three-month-old Chloe was born in February to Smart, 27, who was abducted from her Salt Lake City home as a teenager in 2002 and held captive for nine months before she was rescued.

But more details than that were not disclosed by Smart's father and now a proud grandfather, Ed Smart.

"Well, that happened three months ago," said Ed Smart when The Tribune asked him about Chloe. He said the media learning about the baby three months after her birth could be "just what Elizabeth wanted."

"It is totally private," Ed said. "This is something she is keeping to herself and not trying to have out there."

Ed said he couldn't disclose any information about Chloe to respect Elizabeth's wishes.

Both Smarts regularly make public appearances advocating to rescue children from sex trafficking, and Ed has been promoting a film about the issue, "The Abolitionists." The pair recently made a public plea at a news conference for Elizabeth Laguna-Salgado, a woman who went missing April 16.
