Police and firefighters briefly closed off streets outside downtown Salt Lake City's LDS Church Office Building late Wednesday morning after a woman threatened to leap to her death.

Salt Lake City Fire Department spokesman Jasen Asay said paramedics and firefighters were dispatched to the structure at 50 E. North Temple about 9:55 a.m. They found that LDS security personnel had managed to handcuff the suicidal woman to a railing on the 26th floor, preventing her from jumping until emergency personnel arrived.

By 10:20 a.m., paramedics had taken the woman into their care. She was then transported to the hospital for mental-health evaluation.

During the hourlong crisis, North Temple between State and Main streets was cordoned off.
