Like the weekend preceding it, Memorial Day will likely be a soggy holiday at times.

Occasional showers and thunderstorms are expected across the state, according to the National Weather Service. Meteorologists warn that lightning will be possible, and advise anyone who is going outdoors to plan ahead and locate safe shelter before it's needed.

Salt Lake City can expect a high temperature of 69 on Monday, followed by 72 on Tuesday. St. George can expect a warming trend as well, with a high of 82 on Monday and 86 on Tuesday.

But as the temperature climbs, the air quality drops across much of Utah. After a healthy Sunday, the air in Salt Lake, Utah, Davis, Weber, Uintah and Duchesne counties downgrades on Monday to a moderate level, according to the Utah Division of Air Quality.

Even after the holiday, the sporadic wet weather is expected to continue into the work week for northern Utah, according to the weather service.
