The Cache County Sheriff's Office has identified a 23-year-old rock climber who slipped and tumbled 200 feet to his death in North Logan's Green Canyon.

Sheriff's Chief Deputy Matt Bilodeau said that the body of Matthew Del Grosso, a Utah State University student from Maryland, was recovered by search and rescue workers about 5:30 p.m. Thursday. The remains were turned over to the Utah State Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy.

Del Grosso was climbing near Boy Scout Cave in the canyon about 3 p.m. when he first fell 80 feet and then rolled another 120 feet. Rain and thunderstorms complicated initial efforts to recover his body.

Del Grosso, who suffered severe head trauma, was pronounced dead at the scene after efforts to revive him failed.
