Police have identified two Hillcrest High School students killed in a Wednesday night collision in Sandy.

Police Sgt. Dean Carriger said Hunter Kelson, 17, was driving a silver Plymouth Neon that was struck broadside by a Jeep about 7:30 p.m. Kelson, along with rear-seat passenger Cheyenne Bagley, 16, died of injuries suffered in the crash near 700 E. New England Drive (9675 South).

A 15-year-old female, sitting in the front seat, was taken to Alta View Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, Carriger said.

Police say Kelson's vehicle, westbound on New England Drive, had just stopped at a stop sign and begun to turn onto 700 East when the northbound Jeep, driven by a 35-year-old woman, slammed into the left side of the Neon, causing it to roll.

Neither the Jeep's driver nor her passenger were injured, Carriger said.

The cause of the accident remained under investigation on Thursday, but police said there was no indication of drugs, alcohol or speed being factors in the crash.

All occupants in the Plymouth Neon were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision, police said.
