The Utah County Sheriff's Office has identified the victim of a head-on collision near Cedar Fort as a 72-year-old Provo man.

Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon said deputies continued to investigate why the small, northbound passenger car driven by Donald Leroy Peterson drifted into the path of a southbound garbage truck near State Road 73's mile post 24 about 2:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Cannon said it appeared that Peterson was in good health, so a possible medical issue was not immediately suspected.

The truck driver, who told deputies he had tried in vain to avoid the collision, was unhurt.
