For a repentant West Jordan bank robber, 15 minutes of unwanted fame and his stunned family's insistence led him to surrender to police.

West Jordan police Sgt. Dan Roberts confirmed that the 30-year-old suspect, whose image from Mountain America Credit Union cameras was broadcast on area television and Internet news outlets, came to WJPD headquarters on Sunday to turn himself in.

The suspect, accompanied by an attorney, told detectives his family had recognized him from the news coverage and convinced him to surrender. Roberts said the suspect also turned in most of the cash he took from the bank, at 6761 S. Redwood Road, about 10 a.m. on May 15.

During the holdup, the suspect handed a note to the teller, stating he had a firearm and demanding money. The teller complied and the suspect fled the bank on foot.

He was booked into the Salt Lake County jail on one first-degree felony count of aggravated robbery. He remained behind bars on Wednesday in lieu of $50,375 bail.
