Canals, streams and drains overflowing with rain flooded several Weber County homes over the weekend.

Weber Fire District crews kept busy from 5:50 p.m. Saturday to about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, responding to seven flooding incidents in Farr West, Marriott-Slaterville, West Haven and unincorporated Weber County. In the 48 hours preceding 9 a.m. Sunday, parts of Weber County received more than 2 inches of rain, according to the National Weather Service.

The rainfall overflowed canal banks, streams and drains, sending water rushing into basements and garages, said Weber District Fire Marshal Brandon Thueson. A damage estimate is hard to pin down, Thueson said, though it might be about $20,000.

At least some of the flooding may have been due to debris clogging up canals, Thueson said. Another storm arrives Monday, and in light of that, the fire district is recommending people look to see if debris is plugging their canals and ditches, and if so, to notify their public works department.

Firefighters are also recommending people keep their children away from those canals and swollen streams, Thueson said.
