The Humane Society of Utah is offering a reward after a thoroughbred was killed in Syracuse, possibly by an arrow.

The Humane Society announced the $3,000 reward Saturday for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator.

Lady Antebellum, a 6-year-old broodmare, was found dead in her pasture about 5 p.m. Thursday near 2600 W. 2850 South, according to a Humane Society news release. Syracuse police suspect that the horse died within hours of the discovery.

"Syracuse Police described the injury as a puncture wound shaped like an x behind the horse's front leg," according to the release. "It is assumed the death may possibly be caused by an arrow."

Lady Antebellum was valued at more than $10,000.

"It seems like this was an intentional act of animal violence," said Deann Shepherd, a Humane Society spokeswoman, in a statement. "This is very disturbing to think about and the person responsible for this killing needs to be held accountable to the full extent of the law. Our condolences are given to Lady Antebellum's family at this time."

Anyone with information about the death is asked to call the Syracuse Police Department at 801-825-4400.
