Interstate 15 was closed to northbound traffic Monday night near Draper after a semitrailer truck crashed into a construction barrier, knocking the cement rails into traffic and hitting another vehicle head on.

The semi was traveling south about 7:45 p.m. when the driver struck a cement barrier on the right side of the road, said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce. The driver overcorrected, crossing all southbound lanes and crashing through the cement dividers separating northbound and southbound lanes near 14600 South, Royce said.

The semi knocked six of the cement rails into the northbound lanes and hit a car head-on, Royce said.

An occupant of that car was seriously injured and taken to a hospital, where she was expected to survive.

Meanwhile, all northbound traffic was being diverted to side roads around the crash. Troopers advised motorists to avoid the area.
