A worker was in serious condition Monday after tumbling 20 feet off a ladder and falling into a pit at a construction site between 100 South and 200 South on Main Street.

Salt Lake City Fire Department spokesman Jasen Asay said the accident, reported at about 9 a.m., required use of the department's "heavy rescue" unit to retrieve the worker, who was unconscious but breathing.

TRAX light rail service through the area was delayed for about half an hour while the rescue was underway, due to emergency vehicles needing to park on Main Street.
