A woman was rescued Sunday after she became trapped and almost completely submerged in a canyon pool.

The 27-year-old woman was hiking in Bells Canyon when she lost her footing near the waterfall and fell about 25 feet, said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal.

She landed in a pool of water, but her foot became stuck in the rocks. The water nearly submerged the woman, except for her head, Hoyal said.

Someone called for help about 12:15 p.m.

She was trapped in the water for about 10 to 15 minutes before witnesses could free her foot. Emergency responders eventually reached her and hoisted her out of the canyon with a medical helicopter.

The woman had suffered a minor leg injury and was not taken to the hospital, Hoyal said.
