An early Monday morning electrical fire in an industrial area of North Salt Lake caused $80,000 and temporarily closed down a section of Redwood Road.

A 911 call sent crews scrambling to 170 S. Redwood Road at 5:20 a.m. That address includes a sandblasting operation, a decorative rubber mulch company and a welding shop.

The fire started in the welding shop due to the inappropriate use of extension cords, fire officials said.

No one was in the welding shop when the fire began, and no injuries were reported.

Traffic from Center Street to Interstate 215 on Redwood Road was closed down while crews doused the flames.
