Keep an umbrella handy — Utah is in for a wet weekend.

The National Weather Service is predicting a chance of precipitation along the Wasatch Front on Saturday morning, with rain showers likely in the afternoon.

The rain is expected to continue overnight. Sunday will be mostly to partly cloudy with a chance of more rain.

The weather service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the western two-thirds of the state, predicting that showers and thunderstorms will increase Saturday through Sunday morning before tapering off Sunday afternoon and evening.

North winds are predicted to increase and be strongest in Washington County before diminishing on Monday.

Highs on Saturday in northern Utah will be about 60, with lows in the 30s to low 40s, according to the weather service. Sunday's highs and lows will be a few degrees lower.

Rain also will be falling in the southern part of the state over the weekend, the weather service says.

The forecast calls for highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s on Saturday and Sunday in southwest Utah, including Cedar City. The thermometer is expected to climb a little higher, to the 60s, in Kanab and other south central locations and the lows are predicted to be in the 30s.

In St. George, highs will be around 70 both days and lows in the upper 40s.

Temperatures in the state are predicted to rise during the week. On Wednesday, the highs in northern Utah are expected to reach the mid 70s to about 80.

Southern Utah will be even warmer by Wednesday, with highs ranging from the upper 70s in Cedar City to the low 80s in Kanab and about 90 in St. George.
