A Perry man was charged Thursday with allegedly stabbing and killing his ex-wife last week.

Spencer Rumel Gerlach, 20, is charged in 1st District Court with murder, a first-degree felony, and domestic violence in the presence of a child, a third-degree felony.

Gerlach called police on April 15 and said he had killed his wife, Brigham City police Lt. Dennis Vincent said at the time.

Officers went to a Brigham City apartment near 700 South and 600 East to find that 19-year-old Keltsie Gerlach had apparently been stabbed to death while a 15-month-old girl slept in a crib in another room, Vincent said.

Spencer Gerlach was booked into Box Elder County Jail, where he remained Thursday on $50,000 cash-only bail.

Keltsie and Spencer Gerlach were divorced on March 17, according to court records.

Gerlach's first court appearance is scheduled for Monday.

He has no prior criminal history in Utah, aside from a speeding ticket last June, according to a search of court records.
