Tests results won't come back until Friday afternoon as to whether Nibley's culinary water is safe to use.

A diesel fuel spill contaminated the Cache County town's spring. Following the discovery Wednesday, the city ordered everyone not to use culinary water, stressing that this is a strict prohibition; boiling the water will not remove the contamination.

Crews finished flushing the water system at 7 a.m. Thursday. But tests have not confirmed whether the water is clean, and results will not be available until Friday afternoon, according to the city.

Experts have advised the city that even "after lab tests show water is safe to drink, the odor and taste may still be detectable for some time."

Nibley City has canceled classes at two elementary schools, Heritage and Nibley, in light of the contamination, The Herald Journal reported.

"Evidence collected so far suggests the system may have been contaminated by a recent diesel fuel spill near the city's spring," according to the city. The investigation into the spill is ongoing.
