Ogden firefighters rescued a dog and doused a blaze that caused $15,000 in damage to an apartment unit Tuesday night.

Ogden Deputy Fire Chief Eric Bauman said his crews were dispatched to the apartment at 900 Century Drive at 8:01 p.m. They found heavy smoke coming from the unit, made entry and quickly extinguished the flames.

Firefighters found the dog in a bedroom and reunited it with its owner, who had earlier fled the apartment. An occupant of the apartment was medically evaluated at the scene and released.

"The owner ... was using a propane torch under the home while installing a central air conditioning unit. The torch ignited material which then spread to the interior," Bauman said.

No injuries were reported.
