When you step into Life Salon and Spa, you receive more than an uplifting and beautifying experience—you become part of a larger mission to enhance the community, and the world. Life Salon and Spa, which is an Aveda organization, follows the mission, "to unite beauty, environment and well-being." It is a mission that touches every aspect of the salon, from its daily operations to its long-term goals.

Since its 2008 founding, Life Salon and Spa has partnered with several local charities to give back to the community. Its most recent campaign—which lasts until the end of April—is to raise $4,000 for Western Resources Advocates, a nonprofit dedicated to protecting Utah's water, land and air.

Brittany Harris, owner of Life Salon and Spa, says paying it forward is a priority for the organization. "Our mission is to care for the world we live in—it's all about the union of beauty, the environment and well-being," she says. "At Life Salon and Spa, we seek to enhance the world around us by helping our clients be their best, and helping our communities be their best."

Harris says Life Salon and Spa's mission aligns perfectly with what Western Resources Advocates is working to accomplish. "Water conservation is a big issue that affects people everywhere, and it's only getting more important as we in Utah and across the West are facing drought conditions," she says. "At Life Salon and Spa, we're hoping to help educate people about the importance of water conservation, water preservation, and the importance of keeping our lakes and rivers clean. We want to help people realize that even their small efforts can have a big impact."

Throughout the month of April, Life Salon and Spa will be donating proceeds from several items and services purchased, such as candles and botanical add-on treatments, to Western Resources Advocates. People can also participate in a raffle basket drawing worth $200.

Though the campaign closes at the end of April, Harris says Life Salon and Spa will continue serving the community. "Giving back is what we do. We plan to give to cancer research organizations, as well as help several high schools by supporting their football, lacrosse and cheerleading teams," she says. "We also will be travelling to a women's shelter to give them free haircuts and waxing. It's amazing to see their faces light up. It's a small act of service that touches them and our employees."

Giving back to the community is something that Life Salon and Spa employees and their clients stand behind. "Our work in the community really gives our employees a sense of camaraderie and teamwork. Their volunteer work helps show them that we all have so much to be grateful for," Harris says. "Our clients also love knowing that they're helping too. It's great to tell them that all of the proceeds from a service they received are going to a charity—their faces light up with smiles."

As Harris looks forward, she hopes Life Salon and Spa will continue having a lasting influence in the community. "We want to help our clients feel and look their best, and we strive to make them 110 percent happy when they leave. But our overall goal is really to enhance our community and our world. Whether that is by helping people feel their best through our salon and spa or by giving back to charities, we hope that we are making a difference."
