A Saratoga Springs man was arrested after allegedly being caught on a "nanny cam" beating a neighbor's cat.

The 19-year-old suspect was taken into custody late Friday and booked into the Utah County jail on suspicion of third-degree felony cruelty to animals. He was released Sunday after posting $5,000 bail, jail records show.

The owner of the cat reportedly set up the video camera in a room of her home, where the suspect had access as an aquaintance of her son, after a series of injuries to the cat resulted in numerous trips to the veterinarian.

Saratoga Springs police allege that video recovered from the camera showed the suspect punching the cat repeatedly in the head before slamming it into the floor early last week.

The cat, though injured, survived the attack.

Court proceedings were pending.
