A blaze extensively damaged a Draper home Friday evening.

The fire started in the garage about 8 p.m., in the 1700 East block of Crimson Oak Drive (13940 South). An adult and four teenagers fled the home, and when firefighters arrived, they found "heavy flames" coming from the garage, said Unified Fire Capt. Dan Brown.

The flames spread to the home and extensively damaged it before Unified Fire, with help from Sandy, South Jordan and Bluffdale firefighters, extinguished the flames by 9:30 p.m.

One Unified firefighter suffered a minor burn and was treated on scene, Brown said. The five people were unharmed, but firefighters found a cat deceased in the home, Brown added.

It's not clear yet whether the home is a total loss. The cause was still under investigation.
