Police have arrested a man for allegedly sexually abusing a boy he met while serving as a camp counselor.

Keldon S. Cook, 29, was being held at the Davis County Jail on suspicion of three counts of first-degree felony forcible sexual abuse.

Formal charges had not been filed as of Friday.

Last week, the alleged victim told investigators that in 2012, when he was 14, he attended a weeklong religious camp called Especially For Youth, where Cook was a counselor.

Cook and the teen communicated for the next two years and, on one occasion, they exchanged naked photographs over Snap Chat, according to a probable cause statement.

They also met three times in 2014, and Cook allegedly sexually abused him each time.

Police arrested Cook on April 8, at which time he admitted to "having a sexual relationship" with the boy, according to the probable cause statement.

This past school year, Cook worked as an assistant cheer coach at Alta High School in Sandy, said Canyons School District spokesman Jeff Haney. Cook had also been offered the job of head cheer coach at Brighton High School, but the school board had not yet approved his contract before Cook was fired, Haney said.

The district has "no reason to believe" that Cook abused any of their students, Haney added.

Cook has no prior criminal history in Utah other than two traffic violations, according to a search of court records.

Bail for the alleged sex crimes has been set at $300,000.
