A faulty tanning bed is believed to have been the source of a late Thursday night fire that heavily damaged three businesses in the southern Utah town of Hurricane.

Hurricane Fire Chief Tom Kuhlmann said the 9:30 p.m. blaze had initially been thought successfully put out after an employee of Anytime Fitness, 390 W. State St., doused the smoking tanning bed with a fire extinguisher.

A short time later, though, it flared anew, eventually spreading to two adjacent businesses, too.

Crews from Washington City and Hildale joined Hurricane firefighters in finally putting the blaze out early Friday morning.

No injuries were reported.

Damage estimates were still being compiled on Friday.
