Major delays — some of more than an hour — are expected on freeways this weekend in Salt Lake, Davis, Utah and Summit counties.

The Utah Department of Transportation previously announced work that will close Interstate 15 in Bountiful this weekend. On Thursday, UDOT also said it will reduce I-15 to one lane in Springville, reduce lanes in Sandy and begin a summer-long reduction of I-80 to one lane between Park City and Wanship.

On top of that, the Salt Lake City Marathon will close many local roads at times in Salt Lake County.

I-15 is now scheduled to close in both directions in Bountiful on Saturday as early as 11 p.m., and to reopen on Sunday at 11 a.m. That will allow demolition of a bridge to be replaced at 400 North in Bountiful.

Southbound I-15 will be closed between Legacy Parkway and 400 North in Bountiful, and all southbound traffic will be diverted onto Legacy Parkway. The southbound I-15 on-ramps at all interchanges in that stretch will also be closed.

Northbound I-15 will be closed at 400 North (exit 317) in Bountiful. Northbound traffic will be diverted onto 400 North, then back onto the freeway via 500 West.

UDOT also is predicting what it calls "severe traffic delays of more than an hour" on I-15 in Springville as southbound traffic there will be reduced to one lane between 1400 North (exit 261) and 400 South (exit 260) beginning Saturday at 9 a.m. until Monday at 7 a.m.

After those lane restrictions are lifted, southbound I-15 lanes will be split into two sections through Thursday to allow concrete to cure. Drivers wanting to use exits 261 or 260 will need to stay in the right lanes.

UDOT said the lane restrictions will allow repairing concrete, which was still under warranty from recent reconstruction in the area.

Also, Interstate 80 is scheduled to be reduced to one lane in each direction from the U.S. 40 interchange near Park City to Wanship as early as Saturday morning. All traffic will be shifted to the eastbound lanes, and the speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph. The restrictions are scheduled to be in place through the fall.

Crews there are working on a second phase to reconstruct I-80 in the area with new concrete pavement. Last year, similar work was completed in the eastbound lanes.

Finally, southbound I-15 is scheduled to be reduced to four lanes north of the 10600 South interchange in Sandy beginning Saturday at 10 p.m through Sunday at noon. That will allow maintenance of concrete pavement.
