A Riverdale-area man was killed Monday when a modular home he was helping to move fell on top of him, the Weber County sheriff's office said.

Ronald Lee Macknight, 39, was an employee of a professional moving company working at the Westwood Village mobile home retirement community in Farr West, located at 1111 N. 2000 West, sheriff's Lt. Lane Findlay said.

Prior to the 12:25 p.m. accident, one section of the home had been successfully moved with a set of jacks onto some sort of trailer for relocation, Findlay said. As the second section was moved, it somehow shifted and fell, crushing Macknight, who was beneath the building.

"At this point it looks like a terrible accident," Findlay said. "We're still trying to figure out what happened."

A second worker who was also underneath the home was not injured.

Weber County fire crews used heavy rescue equipment to extricate Macknight from beneath the structure. He'd died at the scene, Findlay said.

Findlay said he did not know the weight of the modular home section.

It wasn't immediately clear whether the man's co-workers had attempted to free him from under the home on their own, he said.

An investigation by Weber County authorities was ongoing Monday afternoon, and the Utah office of the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration had also been called, he said.

According to a sheriff's office news release, a memorial fund for Macknight has been set up at America First Credit Union.
