Unified Police were hunting for two suspects in the armed robbery of a Family Dollar store in Taylorsville late Monday morning.

UPD Lt. Justin Hoyal said the suspects — both black men in their mid- to late-30s, one 6-foot-1, 300 pounds, the second 5-foot-7, 200 pounds — walked into the store at 1649 W 4200 South about 11 a.m.

At first, the two appeared to be shopping, putting items into a cart. But once they determined the female clerk was alone, then went up to her and one of them pulled a handgun.

At one point, customers attempted to enter the store and were told by one of the suspects that the business was closed.

Alone again, the suspects demanded the clerk open the store's safe, and after she did and they pocketed an undisclosed amount of cash, then took her into the back of the store and tied her up.

The clerk, who was not injured, managed to untie herself and call for help.

The two suspects apparently fled in a car — as they evidenced by a trail of change leading to the parking lot, where the trail stopped.

UPD briefly ordered three area schools to keep students inside and secure their buildings. Officers set up a perimeter and conducted a search but could not find the suspects.

Hoyal said at one point the smaller suspect called his 300-pound accomplice "Big Homie." Also, that larger suspect wore sunglasses, a blue hooded sweatshirt, gray beanie-style hat and black pants.

The smaller suspect was the one who produced the handgun. He wore sunglasses, a gray baseball gap, black top and black pants.

Anyone with information on the suspects is asked to called UPD at 385-468-9814
