Utah's midweek forecast, à la comedian Bill Engvall? Here's your sign: a wet, shivering camel.

OK, even on hump day, aka Wednesday, that's a metaphor. You won't find any Bactrian Desert beasties left to the mercy of the elements at Hogle Zoo, for example.

But the forecast stands for northern Utah, where chilly temperatures, rain and even snow were expected — a spring storm pattern that will continue through Thursday.

The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Wasatch and western Uinta mountains, including the communities of Woodruff, Randolph, Alta, Brighton and the Mirror Lake Highway. The advisory remains in place through 4 a.m. Thursday, with 5-9 inches of snow forecast for the region.

A Freeze Warning was ordered for portions of eastern and southeastern Utah from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday, including the towns of Blanding, Bluff, Mexican Hat, Moab, Castle Valley and Thompson Springs.

Winds of 15-25 mph ushered in rain Wednesday morning, and by Wednesday afternoon that precipitation was expected to morph into snowfall — up to 2 inches of the white stuff along the benches. Daytime highs were to be in the mid- to upper-50s on Thursday, up 10 degrees from Wednesday's forecast.

The cold front will have less impact on southwestern Utah, where high temperatures Thursday will be in the low-70s, a 10-degree upward swing from a breezy, but dry Wednesday.

The Utah Division of Air Quality graded all areas of the state as "green," or healthy through the remainder of the work week.

At least the windy and wet weather in the north was giving allergy sufferers a bit of relief. The Intermountain Allergy & Asthma website pollen index as of Wednesday showed cedar and oak at "high" levels, while cottonwood, maple and ash came in at "moderate."
