The Utah Highway Patrol has identified an eastern Utah man killed in a crash that culminated a high-speed pursuit.

Killed in the 6:30 p.m. Sunday accident on U.S. Highway 40 near 8700 East in Gusher, was 29-year-old Marshall P. Jack of Fort Duchesne.

UHP said the van Jack and several other males — two of whom also were seriously injured — were riding in had been driving north, chased by a Bureau of Indian Affairs officer. The van went out of control, crossed all lanes and went off the north side of the roadway, rolling and landing on its side.

UHP said the accident remained under investigation, but troopers believe the van was going too fast and people in the van had been drinking alcohol.
