Especially when it comes to breaking into a cellphone store, it's all about communications.
In this case, it was a burglary alarm that summoned Unified Police officers to a T-Mobile store in Taylorsville — just in time to catch a suspect with cellphone and tablet computer booty.
The alarm activated about 4:45 a.m. Monday at 5443 S. Redwood Road, and when officers arrived they spotted a Honda Civic driving from the parking lot of the business.
"An officer followed the car while another officer checked the business," UPD Lt. Justin Hoyal said. "Entry had been made by cutting a hole through the wall of the business."
Once inside, the suspect allegedly stuffed two duffel bags with cellphones and tablets.
The suspect parked his car a short distance from the store and attempted to walk away, but he was stopped by police and, after the stolen goods were discovered inside the vehicle, arrested.
The 35-year-old Mexican national was being held for processing by federal immigration officials. He also was booked into the Salt Lake County jail on second-degree felony theft, third-degree felony burglary and numerous misdemeanors related to making and possessing burglary tools, shoplifting and various driving-related violations.
