A Utah Highway Patrol trooper says a man did the right thing by returning a big bag of cash he found on Interstate 80.

On Tuesday morning, a Brink's armored truck was westbound on Interstate 80 when it hit a bump near the Wright Brothers Drive offramp and the back door opened, said UHP Trooper Brady Zaugg. The employees pulled over and locked the door, but didn't see that one of the bags had fallen out, Zaugg said.

But a man close behind them, Dan Kennedy, stumbled across it. He pulled over to the shoulder and grabbed the bag, thinking at first it was just a bag of garbage; only to realize "it was chock-full of money," Zaugg said.

The amount has not been disclosed, but Zaugg said the bag weighed between 50 and 75 pounds.

Kennedy later contacted the Utah Highway Patrol and returned the money to Brink's later that morning. The seals on the money were still intact, proving he hadn't touched the money, Zaugg said.

"He did the right thing for the right reason," Zaugg said. "He was very happy to do the right thing."

Zaugg doesn't know if Kennedy was rewarded for his altruism.
