Fire investigators suspect that a child playing with matches may have started a Taylorsville house fire.

About 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, firefighters arrived at the fire near 2700 West and 6200 South to find the home fully involved, said Unified Fire Battalion Chief Brian Anderton. Everyone had evacuated the home, although three adults were treated on scene for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters eventually doused the flames, but the home will remain uninhabitable for "quite some time" — displacing the four adults and two children who lived there, Anderton said. He estimated the damage at $125,000.

Investigators suspect at this point that a 5-year-old had been playing with matches in a basement bedroom, the battalion chief said.

A family Chihuahua remains unaccounted for, Anderton said.
