A West Valley City man was arrested on a warrant Wednesday for allegedly shooting and killing a man's dog with a pellet gun last year.

On Oct. 28, a man was walking his dog when the 37-year-old suspect allegedly shot the animal. The dog was taken to the veterinarian, where it later died.

The suspect told police that "he just wanted to scare them," according to charges filed in 3rd District Court.

The man was charged on Feb. 2 with aggravated cruelty to an animal and reckless endangerment, both class A misdemeanors. He was also charged with use of a projectile weapon, which is a class B misdemeanor.
