A 15-year-old suspected street gang member remained in serious condition Wednesday, while all four suspects in his shooting last weekend in Millcreek had been brought in.

Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said detectives had the alleged 20-year-old triggerman and a 15-year-old male accomplice in custody, and had released two other persons of interest — males 17 and 18 years old — after they turned themselves in and were questioned.

The latter two were released because "there is no evidence to hold them criminally responsible for this shooting," Hoyal said.

Late Monday night, a UPD SWAT team arrested the first two suspects during a raid at a home in the 3600 West block of Bawden Avenue (about 4150 South) in West Valley City.

UPD said a group of four Latinos were being followed by the victim and two other black youths about 8:30 p.m. last Saturday near 4000 South and 300 East when one of the Latinos pulled a handgun, turned and opened fire, striking the victim in the torso.

Detectives identified the 20-year-old man as the alleged shooter, and tracked him to the West Valley City home. Following his arrest and questioning, he was booked into the Salt Lake County jail on suspicion of first-degree felony attempted homicide.

The 15-year-old also arrested Monday night was booked into the Salt Lake Valley Detention Center on suspicion of third-degree felony rioting.

Hoyal said that detectives were not seeking anyone else in connection with the shooting.
