Sen. Mike Lee has shuffled his top aides after Neil Ashdown resigned as chief of staff last week for family reasons. He'd been on the job for about four months.

Lee hired Ashdown in December 2014 as he was trying to ramp up his political operation to prepare for the 2016 election. Lee shifted his then-chief of staff Boyd Matheson from the D.C. office to the campaign team in Utah.

With Ashdown's unexpected departure, Matheson has reclaimed his position as chief of staff. The senator has yet to make a determination on who will lead his campaign team.

Ashdown previously worked as chief of staff for former Gov. Jon Huntsman, when Lee served as the governor's general counsel. Ashdown later served as the top aide for Huntsman when he was the U.S. ambassador to China. Huntsman is one of the co-chairmen of Lee's re-election campaign.
