A woman was upgraded to serious condition on Friday, the day after she was injured when the SUV she was riding in was rear-ended by a pickup truck on Interstate 80 near Coalville.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce did not release the identity of the woman, who was riding in the SUV about 6:20 p.m. Thursday. The SUV driver, 71-year-old George O. Frazier of Woodruff, was killed in the crash.

Frazier was driving partially in the right lane and partially in the emergency lane much slower than traffic speed when the vehicle was hit by the Dodge pickup. The impact pushed the SUV off the road and ejected Frazier.

Neither he nor his female passenger were wearing seat belts. The pickup's driver was not hurt.

The SUV was reported to be having mechanical problems shortly before the accident.

The woman initially had been listed in critical condition at University Hospital in Salt Lake City.
