Northern Utahns await a mix of spring sunshine and rain showers to begin the new work week, while to the south sunny, clear and breezy days will prevail.

Tuesday's forecast for the Wasatch Front, mirroring that on Monday, called for daytime highs of around 60 degrees, with west winds of 10-20 mph ushering in afternoon and evening rain. Above 7,000 feet elevation, snow is possible.

Southern Utah looked for highs in the mid-70s both days, west winds of 10-20 mph, and mostly clear skies gradually turning partly cloudy by Tuesday evening.

The Utah Division of Air Quality gave the entire state "green," or healthy air quality grades into the midweek, but the blooming of the cottonwoods brought its dreaded itching eyes and sneezes to allergy sufferers.

The Intermountain Allergy & Asthma website on Monday had cottonwood pollen at "very high" levels, while cedar and willow pollen readings climbed into the "moderate" range.

Still, winter lingers along the higher mountain backcountry slopes, even as snowpack melts. As of Friday, the Utah Avalanche Center warned of "moderate" risks for potentially deadly snowslides statewide.
