A man surrendered peacefully early Friday afternoon following a tense standoff of several hours with SWAT officers in Pleasant Grove.

Police confirmed the surrender about 1 p.m., but did not immediately offer any other details.

SWAT and Pleasant Grove police had surrounded a residence near 900 N. Sage Drive about 9:30 a.m. Friday after a neighbor called 911, reporting hearing gunshots and then seeing her neighbor with a rifle.

Police Lt. Britt Smith officers briefly confronted the man, and he made threats to officers and himself before going inside his home. No further shots were heard.

Police asked neighbors of the suspect to shelter in place until the crisis passed.

Smith said it was not believed anyone other than the man was inside the home during the standoff.
