A man was jailed after his fight with another homeless shelter visitor ended with a female security guard being stabbed.

Salt Lake City police say the incident occurred about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at The Road Home shelter, 210 S. Rio Grande St., when the 22-year-old suspect swung a pair of scissors during the fight, puncturing the guard's upper ear.

She was treated for minor injuries at the scene; the other combatant was not reported hurt.

The suspect was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County jail on suspicion of assault and domestic violence in the presence of a child and disorderly conduct.

The suspect remained behind bars Thursday in lieu of $2,100 bail.
