Funding for some big projects at the state's universities — and some other key buildings — advanced through the Senate on Monday.
SB9 passed on a 28-0 vote, and was sent it to the House. It allows issuing revenue bonds to finance projects including:
• $23 million to renovate Romney Stadium at Utah State University.
• $45 million to renovate Orson Spencer Hall, a large classroom building at the University of Utah.
• $20 million for a student housing project at Dixie State University.
• $23.1 million to replace the Valley View Residence Hall at Utah State University.
• $86.9 million to expand the Fourth District Courthouse in Provo.
• $4.4 million to build a state liquor store in West Valley City.
The bill also allows universities to use some of their institutional funds and donations, but not state funds, for a variety of other projects. They include:
• $8.2 million by the University of Utah for a 24,000 square foot expansion of its William C. Browning Building.
• $10 million by Utah State University for an addition and renovation of its fine arts complex.
• $3.9 million by Salt Lake Community College to build a strength and conditioning center.
