A 77-year-old man, run down while crossing a downtown Salt Lake City street this weekend, had been upgraded to serious condition on Monday.

Salt Lake City police Detective Cody Lougy said the victim, who initially had been listed as critical after the 5:34 p.m. Saturday collision, had improved and was now expected to survive.

The man was hit by a car driven by an 83-year-old woman as she turned onto 200 East from westbound 500 South. She was not hurt.

It remained uncertain whether the man was in a crosswalk or had the light as he entered the street. The incident remained under investigation.
