Two TRAX trains had a low-speed collision Tuesday afternoon near the Central Pointe station, near 2100 South — when they both tried to occupy the same track.

An eastbound Green Line train was making a slow left-hand turn to go north at about 2 p.m. when it collided with a northbound Blue Line train, whose driver thought he had the right-of-way, said UTA spokesman Remi Barron.

The impact knocked the Green Line train off its tracks, and at 4 p.m. crews were using hydraulic jacks to put it right again, Barron said.

Bus bridges were in place from Ball Park to River Trail and Millcreek stations servicing Central Pointe, but rider could expect delays of 30 minutes on all lines, UTA reported.

Meanwhile the Blue Line train was able to continue on its way.

One woman complained of leg pain and was taken to a hospital for treatment, Barron said.

Barron said it was not immediately known if human error was the cause of the crash, or if an equipment malfunction was a contributing factor.

"All the signal and switches are recorded," he said, "so we should be able to find out if they were working properly."
