The Utah Highway Patrol has identified a West Valley City man who died Monday in a fiery crash on northbound Interstate 15 near 7400 South.

Troopers say that Antonio Lopez, 37, was driving his Honda Civic about 1:45 p.m. Monday when he lost control, went off the right side of the freeway and collided with a concrete barrier wall. Lopez's vehicle then swerved across all six northbound lanes and collided with a concrete median barrier before being struck in the rear passenger side by a Chevrolet Equinox in the northbound HOV lane.

Lopez's vehicle burst into flames. Passersby pulled Lopez, the sole occupant, from the burning car but Lopez was declared dead at the scene.

Why Lopez initially lost control of his vehicle remained under investigation.

No other injuries were reported.
