Authorities confirm that a man apparently committed suicide late Wednesday afternoon by stepping into the path of a FrontRunner commuter train in Bluffdale.

Public safety dispatchers say the 911 call, from Utah Transit Authority, came in at 4:31 p.m. The incident occurred near 14000 South, and prompted UTA to implement a "bus bridge" between Lehi and Draper until the tracks were finally cleared and train travel through the scene resumed about 10 p.m.

The name and age of the deceased were not released pending notification of next of kin.

While the incident remained under investigation by the Eagle Mountain Police Department, which covers Bluffdale, but initial indications were that the victim meant to be struck by the train.

UTA spokesman Remi Barron could not discuss specifics, but did confirm there were no injuries to FrontRunner passengers or crew.
