Police flooded a west Salt Lake City neighborhood late Tuesday morning when a dispute between and estranged couple allegedly escalated into a case of aggravated kidnapping.

Police said a woman was at her ex-boyfriend's home to retrieve property about 8:30 a.m. when he allegedly stabbed her in the leg, and then held her in the residence against her will.

The 40-year-old woman eventually escaped, called police and officers — eventually assisted by police dogs — flooded the area of 900 South and 1300 West. At one point, the suspect — a 45-year-old Latino with a buzz cut — was spotted in a white Jeep Cherokee, but he later eluded officers on foot.

As a precaution, police temporarily locked down nearby Parkview Elementary School, Mountain View Elementary School and Glendale Middle School, though neither the students nor staff were believed in real danger, Wilkins said.

The man remained at large Wednesday.
