Mayor Ralph Becker will announce Thursday morning an initiative that is designed to provide a road map for Salt Lake City's economic-development policies and seeks to unite business and government leaders behind a common vision.

The effort Becker is calling "EnterpriseSLC" will be headed up by Natalie Gochnour, associate dean at the David Eccles School of Business, according to a statement from City Hall.

The program will ask for input from the community, as well as gather data with the intent of designing new economic-development tools to benefit Utah's capital city.

"Salt Lake City's economy is one of the strongest in the nation," Becker said. "But even during a time of great economic prosperity and success, it is wise to take a long-term view and step back, listen to the public and evaluate what more we can be doing."

Becker praised Gochnour, who also serves as the chief economist for the Salt Lake Chamber.

"Natalie is a trusted economic adviser to community leaders and we welcome her contributions to this important project," Becker said.

The action plan is expected to be completed by May.

The mayor said he will work with the City Council toward its implementation.
