Police are investigating a shooting after responding late Tuesday morning to what initially sounded like a heart attack in progress at a Salt Lake City 7-Eleven store.

Salt Lake City police Detective Greg Wilking said a man walked into the business, at 1353 W. Indiana Ave., about 11:45 a.m., complaining of chest pains.

When police and paramedics arrived in response to a 911 call, however, it was discovered the man had suffered a gunshot wound.

He was conscious and breathing when transported to a hospital in serious condition.

Wilking said the man was not cooperative with investigators trying to learn more about the shooting, including refusing to give his name and age.

Detectives, however, believe they know his identity, Wilking said Tuesday afternoon, but details of the shooting remained a mystery.
