A 32-year-old woman was behind bars Tuesday after allegedly stealing a pickup truck with a small cement mixer trailer attached and then leading police on a vehicle and foot chase in South Salt Lake.

Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said a UPD officer just happened to spot the vehicle, dragging the tipped over, fish-tailing cement mixer trailer behind, about 3:40 p.m. Monday near 3300 South and West Temple.

Fearing for public safety, the officer tried to pull over the truck. The driver sped away, eventually rolling and crashing as she attempted to enter the northbound on-ramp to Interstate 15 from 3300 South. The woman, who was not seriously injured, then ran across the street to a Motel 6 and entered a room.

Police arrested her inside the unit without further incident, Hoyal said.

UPD is investigating the pursuit, crash and flight of the suspect; South Salt Lake police are addressing the stolen vehicle complaint.

The woman, who had several active arrest warrants, was being held in the Salt Lake County jail in lieu of more than $27,000 bail on suspicion of felony theft, credit card fraud and fleeing police. She also faced numerous misdemeanor counts ranging from drug-related to traffic-related offenses.
