Utah saw 14 deaths from police shootings in 2014, including the last homicide of the year. And Utah's first three homicides in 2015 involved men killed in confrontations with police.

Officer-involved shootings in Utah and nationwide have spurred public outcry and scrutiny about how officers are trained, when lethal force is justified and how such shootings are investigated.

To help identify solutions, The Salt Lake Tribune will hold a town hall, "Deadly Force: A Community Response to Police Shootings," on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Salt Lake City Main Library, 210 E. 400 South.

West Valley City Police Chief Lee Russo, POST director Scott Stephenson, activist Lex Scott and Tribune reporter Erin Alberty will discuss policy and possible improvements.

Attendees should be seated by 6:45 p.m. since the forum will be broadcast and live-streamed on KCPW 88.3/105.3 FM, kcpw.org and sltrib.com.
