One person is dead and another was injured during a stabbing at the Utah State Prison in Draper on Tuesday afternoon.

A fight broke out between two inmates in a cell at the Uinta facility at the prison, Utah Department of Corrections spokeswoman Brooke Adams said Tuesday.

A 23-year-old man was fatally stabbed, while his cellmate, a 33-year-old man, was taken to the infirmary for treatment of minor injuries, according to Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal.

The identities of the inmates were not immediately released, pending notification of the victim's family.

The Draper facility is now on lock-down and all activities have been canceled.

Hoyal said detectives were just beginning to investigate the stabbing just before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, and it wasn't known yet who the aggressor was in the situation.

According to the prison website, the Uinta facility houses high-profile inmates, death-row inmates and inmates who "pose severe management problems" such as gang members. It also is the location of the Intake and Receiving & Orientation facility.

Hoyal could not specify which unit within the Uinta facility the inmates were housed in.
