A Cache County man, alleged to have shot his girlfriend to death before turning a handgun on himself, remained on life support Tuesday.

North Park Police Chief Kim Hawkes said that Christian A. Emerson, 26, was on a ventilator and still in critical condition.

About midnight last Saturday, a passerby found Emerson and a deceased Amanda Lee Hoyt, 26, of North Logan, inside a parked car near 1830 E. Canyon Ridge Drive in North Logan. The passerby reportedly called 911 and removed a handgun from the car as a precaution, until officers arrived.

Police said Hoyt was dead at the scene from multiple gunshots. Emerson, found slumped behind the wheel, was rushed to first a local hospital and then flown to a Salt Lake-area hospital.

Detectives say it appears Emerson, who had been dating Hoyt, shot the woman and then himself.
