Criminal forensic teams resumed their painstaking work in Davis County on Monday, digging and sifting for evidence in an area where a human skull and other bones were found over the past several days.

Davis County Sheriff's Sgt. DeeAnn Servey said wet weather was making the task more challenging, but investigators continued working in an area of Fruit Heights along a U.S. 89 frontage road where a hiker found the skull last Thursday.

Over the weekend, additional, unspecified bones and clothing fragments have also been unearthed, but what, if any connection they have to the skull was unknown.

All detectives are certain of at this point, Servey said, is that the skull had been in the area "for some time."

The skull has not yet been linked to any unsolved homicides or missing persons, investigators say.

Servey said that despite Monday's rainfall, it was hoped the investigation on-scene could be wrapped up early this week.
